At Pipster, as part of our commitment towards social value, our team are annually provided one paid day to volunteer towards a charitable organisation or cause of their choice.

This year, Hannah, Jo and Catherine decided to take their volunteering day at Dorothy House Hospice Care – our ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2024. The team were tasked with clearing vegetation from a field that was blocking a gate, necessary for access to the upcoming Dorothy House ‘Paws in the Park’ fundraising event in October. They clipped back brambles, removed weeds, broke down large branches, and shovelled and wheelbarrowed everything to the back of the field. They also picked out non-compostable rubbish for recycling and even relocated some wildlife, including a toad!

Jo commented, “Volunteering at Winsley really made me realise how vital it is to offer time to local charities. Dorothy House really appreciated our time and effort in clearing this field in readiness for their forthcoming Paws in the Park event (which I’ll be attending with my dog Margo!). They were extremely accommodating, welcoming and appreciative, and because of this, I will be offering my support again. Their gardens and land need a lot of care and maintenance and I was so glad to be a small part of helping them.”

Sajia took her volunteering day supporting The King Alfred School Academy to conduct mock interviews for their 250 Year 10 and 12 students. The event provided students the opportunity to meet potential future employers, practice their interviewing skills, increase their confidence, and receive constructive feedback to help them prepare for their future careers.

Sajia commented, “It was truly inspiring to witness how ambitious, eager to learn, and motivated the students were! I strongly encourage others to join in supporting initiatives like this, empowering students to enhance their readiness for the future and thrive in their chosen careers.”
